NO WATER - NO LIFE ,                  NO WATER - NO PEACE           (students exchange program  2018-2019)

With this project outline we would like to promote the continuation of the student exchange project of our school Amandus Abendroth Gymnasium ( Cuxhaven, Germany ) with our two partner schools, Birla Highschool and Sushila Birla Girls School ( Kolkata, India ).

The proposed project is an extention of an aim, begun in 2016, of raising awareness of  the resource water in students' minds. They should recognize the global importance of the subject matter on the basis of scientific investigations, but also understand their personal concern, firstly because of the location of Cuxhaven (and Kolkata) in the tidal zone of a large estuary, and secondly because world peace in future will also be a question of water supply. The project aims to change the students behavior in relation to their waste of water and more generally, to promote sustainable water use. Ultimately, they should spread their acquired knowledge to make more people aware of the problem.

The students should experimentally determine the physico-

chemical properties of water, which makes water the basis of life on Earth, and explore the possibilities and limitations of drinking water (abstraction and purification), as well as the relationship between climate change and global water availability. In addition, water samples are analyzed and the quality of the different water bodies are compared.

The Wadden Sea of Cuxhaven and the Wetlands near Kolkata are compared as aquatic habitats. At the same time students will learn scientific methods and scientific work.

All aspects are examined in Germany, in the region Cuxhaven and in India, in the city Kolkata. All results will be discussed using literature and summarized in the form of a cumulative scientific report. In addition, flyer campaigns and the creation of this website will strengthen the awareness of students and the public for sustainable water use.
